Whittier Community Garden is just getting up and running following the construction of the new school and the conversion of part of the old school into a community center. We have been fortunate to be able to make contact with a few of the gardeners who lost their spaces due to the sale of the Jordan Street Garden and bring them onboard.
We're working now on reaching out to the rest of the school and neighborhood community to find out who else wants to get involved. We're also thinking through how to best have students interact with the garden. And we still have a ways to go with planting common areas with grapes, flowers, vertical gardens, etc. and designing and building irrigation.
It will be fun to show you where we are so far and hear your advice/ideas for going forward.
